The Brand New Conference is a one-day event organized by UnderConsideration, focusing on the practice of corporate and brand identity — a direct extension of the popular blog, Brand New. The conference consists of eight sessions offering a broad range of points of view with speakers from around the world practicing in different environments, from global consultancies, to in-house groups, to small firms.

The inaugural conference takes place in New York City as it is undoubtedly one of the most important hubs of identity practice and, presumably, an allure to out-of-towners who might be inclined to attend the conference and make a weekend out of it. The venue for the conference will be the School of Visual Arts Theatre, in the Beatrice auditorium, which holds 266 attendees.

For those that can’t attend the conference, a live webcast will be available as well as pay-per-download videos after the event.

The Brand New Conference is put together and hosted by UnderConsideration co-founders Bryony Gomez-Palacio and Armin Vit.

The distinction between smartphones like BlackBerrys and the iPhone, and regular phones, has blurred considerably in recent years. More consumers are tuning into mobile apps, media, and data services. That makes the cell phone the next computing platform—and one that’s already in people’s pockets. Soon, all phones will be media devices. But mobile is more than phones. It’s also other mobile devices, like netbooks and smartbooks. Plus, the latest trends, including longer batteries, cloud computing, and the death of optical drives mean the focus is moving away from hardware specs (i.e. is this PC powerful enough) to software, apps, touch screens, and overall UI design. How do people use mobile devices? They’re media consumption gadgets. But they’re also entertainment devices: e-books, music, movies, and so on. In other words, it’s not about the devices; it’s about the mobility that these devices bring. In the near future, what will the mobile device become? What does this all mean for cell phones?

Debacle, the new video project by Nike SB, and the first skate video to be filmed entirely in HD, is now available to watch or download for free and on Blu-ray disc.

Directed by Jon Humphries and Jason Hernandez, Debacle was filmed by Hernandez, Joey Ruiz, and Chris Middlebrook, who followed the youngest members of the SB team (Daryl Angel, David Clark, Shane O’Neill, Theotis Beasley, Justin Brock, and Grant Taylor) to 10 countries over the past 10 months. The video is set to a soundtrack that matches the intensity and vigor of the young crew’s skating (featuring Bad Brains, Skid Row, and The Replacements).

“Shot entirely in HD and well worth your time and attention, this is truly some “next level” skateboarding.”
-Bryce Kanights, editor of Skatedaily.net

“…they have produced a film that is inspiring and breathtaking, in full HD. Luckily for you, the viewer, they flipped the traditional distribution method on it’s head. Nike SB’s Debacle is available first online for viewing and download, then a Blu-Ray version will be released later.”
-David Vo, contributor at joshspear.com

To deliver the project online, Nike SB has teamed up with Adobe’s Experience Design (XD) team and Hega TV.

The free stream and download of Debacle will be available until July 24th. The Blu-ray disc is now available at SB retailers worldwide.

If you would like to download photos from Debacle, please visit the Nike SB downloads page here.

“The Feast” is a cross-disciplinary series of programs addressing social innovation and new ways to make the world a better place. Our secret sauce lies in a healthy combination of passion, creativity, and entrepreneurship to shift the way things are done – thereby changing individuals, industries, and ultimately the world.

An open exchange of ideas across industries and society is necessary to produce lasting, sustainable, meaningful change. “The Feast” brings together the world’s leading creative entrepreneurs, revolutionaries, radicals, doers and thinkers to inspire more action, share best practices, and create valuable connections that will change the world.
